AN EGYPTIAN BASALT OFFERING TABLE
MIDDLE KINGDOM, 12TH DYNASTY, 1991-1783 B.C.
Rectangular in form, with a raised border centered by a runoff channel on one long side, carved in raised relief with offerings including two trussed ducks, bread, and vessels, with a hieroglyphic inscription around the border, reading: "[A Royal] Offering Formula, thousand of bread, thousand o[f beer ...]," and continuing, now only partially legible: "... for [the Ka of] the Os[iris], followed by a personal name, seemingly containing the element "ankh"

Provenance
Acquired by the grandfather of the current owner and brought to New York, prior to 1948; thence by descent.
