Lot Essay

The lush and exceptionally naturalistic floral marquetry top very closely relates to the work of Guillaume Kemp, maître in 1767. A secretaire abattant with an almost identical basket of flowers by Kemp from the Seligmann Collection is illustrated in F. De Salverte Les Ebenistes Francais du XVIIIe Siecle, Paris 1962, plate 81.
