Romanée-Conti Grand Cru--Vintage 1989
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Bottle no's 01000, 01315, 05522. One good label, one marked with red biro, one slightly stained. Two with U.S.A import back labels. Levels 1.5cms below base of corks
Tasting note: First tasted at the Domaine with Lalou Bize-Leroy, Aubert de Villaine and his father in October 1990. At 12 months: a deep velvety purple; good rich nose; full-bodied, substantial fruit and extract. 'Great potential'. Next at a Bin Club tasting in June 1992: fairly deep, lovely, soft, vanillin nose; intense, assertive, great length - earning an exceptionally high mark (appropriate for the price: GBP 3588.66 per dozen in bond duty free. And that was 10 years ago.) ***(**) M.B.
