A MOULDED BROWN-GLAZED 'LION' PILLOW
JIN DYNASTY (1115-1234)
The pillow is modelled as two recumbent lions with curly manes and large snouts, and a leaping animal in between, grasped in its mouth is a ribbon attached to a brocade ball. The top ruyi-shaped pillow surface is moulded with a diamond-shaped panel enclosing a lotus blossom and leaves, surrounded by various animals including a rabbit, deer and falcon. The pillow is covered with a chocolate-brown glaze, stopping irregularly above the base, revealing the buff body.
