Lot Essay

Young female painter Aleah Angeles displays a lyrical, feminine quality within her works. Inspired by the figures of young girls, which the artist herself relates to and draws from life based on her own photographs, she depicts wistful scenarios of storybook fantasylands. Parallel Botany (Lot 353) shows a child suspended between day and night; alternately awake and dreaming, as above her towers a blooming plant derived from Angeles' imagination, reflecting her strong interest in flora and fauna, and how she integrates these tender saplings into her painterly universe.
