A PURPLE QIN-FORM DUAN INKSTONE
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The inkstone is of rectangular section tapering to one end, with six indentations to the sides, carved with strings and studs around the recessed well in imitation of a qin, resting on four shallow bracket feet. The longer side is incised with four characters in seal script Shi Qian shen ding, 'Examined by Shi Qian'. The underside is carved with further strings and studs and two sunken rectangular panels, one of which bearing five characters Shu Mei Qian Du cang, 'In the collection of Shu Mei (Qian Du)'.
