Lot Essay
Antoine Durenne established his foundry at Sommevoire in the Haute-Marne, France, in 1855. He worked with Carrier-Belleuse, Bartholdi and Klagmann on private as well as public commissions and became membre des comits d'admission at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle. Durenne sought to expand the decorative possibilities offered by cast-iron manufacture expanding his foundry to produce items from architectural decoration such as stairs, balconies and balustrades to reproductions of ancient vases and sculptures.
