The acclaimed military commander, Prince Eugène of Savoy formed a notable collection of art, objects, and books and manuscripts. Having served in Austria under three Holy Roman Emperors, he bequeathed his library to Emperor Charles VI, and it became in turn part of the Imperial Library at Vienna. The present volume was sold, with others, as a duplicate, which saved it from the library's campaign of rebinding.
