Lot Essay

Gisella Orkin was a Broadway dancer in shows such as 'Kiss me Kate', 'Follow the Girls,' 'Look Ma, I'm Dancin'!' and 'Paint Your Wagon'. Cole Porter once told her: "You sing well, for a dancer". Nevertheless, he cast her as Venus in his musical 'Out of this World' and had a costume - a bikini made out of doves - made for her which scandalized the critics at the time. Ms.Orkin received this glass sculpture as a gift from her mother-in-law.
