The vendor and Mitch Mitchell shared the same management company prior to the Jimi Hendrix Experience signing with Chas Chandler. The company had paid for Mitch's black Gretsch kit and he later returned the kit to them when in April, 1967, he had been offered a new drum kit in return for a sponsorship deal. The vendor then started to use the kit and when the management company owed him some money, he kept the kit in return for payment. The kit was sold by the vendor at auction in 1997 but he kept this snare drum because it was such a good recording drum. The kit sold at auction included a deeper snare drum that the vendor obtained from Mitch Mitchell when he was playing with Georgie Fame. The rest of the kit is currently on display at the Hard Rock Cafe.
