Contemporary English mottled calf, gilt arms of Earl Coningsby on covers, gilt spine in 8 compartments, gilt-lettered red morocco spine label in second (some rubbing to joints and edges). Provenance: Thomas Coningsby (signature on flyleaf and binding); acquired from Goodspeed's Book Shop, 1959.
Second edition of Ogilby's beautifully illustrated translation. "At the Restoration, Ogilby made himself acceptable to Charles II and his court. In 1661 he was entrusted with the sole conduct of the 'poetical part' of the coronation. Ogilby printed many splendid books, mostly in folio; several were illustrated, or, as he expressed it, 'adorned with sculpture,' by Hollar and other eminent engravers" (DNB). Wing H-2555.
