PREDOMINANTLY SECOND HALF OF THE 16TH CENTURY
With long double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, grooved oblong ricasso struck with a shield-shaped maker's mark on one side, iron guard of slender flattened bars each engraved with running foliage against a punched ground, some traces of original gilding throughout, the principle outer bars interrupted by ovals bearing silver-encrusted bouquets of flowers against a gilt ground each with a punched silver band forming a roped border, knuckle-guard and rear-quillon finials en suite (rear-quillon an expert replacement), inner-guard of slender bars, the lower side-ring and central void of the inner-guard each with expertly replaced pierced plate, copper-wire-bound grip with Turk's heads, and later flattened pierced openwork pommel decorated en suite with the guard
