The rectangular case with frets to three sides, the front fret engraved with foliage and intertwined dolphins, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours, half hour marks and engraved to centre with trailing flowers, a central flower around hands, signed Geo: Harris in Fritwell Fecit, with verge escapement, count wheel strike and half hour passing strike, formerly key-wound, with pendulum

Lot Essay

George Harris of Fritwell was born in 1614. The key-winding feature in his lantern clocks, for which he is known, is particularly unusual. He died in 1694.
