The Hofglasmaler Nicolaus Michael Spengler (1700 -1776) is recorded as having produced two reverse glass paintings for Jagdschloss Kranichstein, Darmstadt, the hunting lodge of the Ludwig VIII (1691 - 1768), the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt.
