Lot Essay

"The first two souvenirs were made in 1968 as my contribution to Aspen 7 'British Box'. Souvenir No.3 was given to David Hockney, and then the series continued spasmodically ... They were made to be given to the person to whom each is dedicated. " (see Exhibition catalogue, Peter Blake: Souvenirs and Samples, London, Waddington and Tooth Galleries, 1977)

Gordon House was an artist and graphic designer who was instrumental in creating an in-house style for art galleries and museums in the 1960s. House designed the Beatles White album and the back of the Sergeant Pepper album, for which his longtime friend Peter Blake designed the front.
