Lot Essay

The 1946 Ulster Trophy was won by the legendary H.H Prince Birabongse of Thailand (pseudonym B. Bira) and who is depicted here on the right in his ERA C car (No.1). The car dons the Siam royal international livery of blue with yellow chassis and wheels. Behind him is Reginald 'Uncle' Parnell in a Maserati 4CL (No. 6) who finished second.
The plaque on the picture frame indicates that this picture was presented by Bira's wife the Princess Chula Chackrabongse to one of the drivers of the 1946 Ulster T.T. possibly for Silver, or second place.

Christie's are grateful to Charles White for his help in cataloguing this lot.
