Lot Essay

This giant shoe chair was made for the famous Karstadt department store in Dusseldorf, Germany. The shoe chair and one other also in faux leopard skin were commissioned by the store in 1979. The original flagship Karstadt in Dusseldorf was established in 1881 and became the model for department stores across Europe.

The other shoe is in a private collection in Germany.
