Lot Essay

David Murray, 3rd Earl of Mansfield (d.1840) commissioned furniture from Gillows in 1801-2 which included related plate stands for the dining room at Kenwood, Hampstead, which remained in the house until sold, C.B. King, Kenwood House Sale, 6 November 1922, lots 981 and 982. A closely related example was sold Christie's London, 14 May 2003, lot 142, which may well have been one of the Kenwood stands. More recently an example was sold from the collection of The Late Anne, Lady Hollenden, Christie's London, 23 November 2006, lot 8 (£16,800 incl.).

More from The Collection of Professor Sir Albert Richardson, P.R.A.
