Though little is known of the Argentine retailer Descotte, the haute luxe furnisings and decorations which bear their label were clearly destined for an affluent clientele based in Buenos Aires. The finely-cast bacchic masks and trophy mounts on the present table appear to be of identical design and manufacture as those on an extensive dining suite almost certainly produced by Maison Jansen for the South American market and subsequently sold Christie's, New York, 18-19 April 2012, lots 497-500.
