Details
A WHITE JADE ARCHAISTIC AXE-FORM PLAQUE
The flat plaque is in the shape of an axe that flares to a curved 'cutting' edge at one end, and has a 'hafting hole' near the other end. Both sides are carved in low relief with archaistic motifs and with asymmetrical bands of key fret, and pairs of archaistic bird and dragon heads, as well as 'tooth'-like flanges, project from the narrow sides. There are a few small areas of black flecking in the otherwise white, semi-translucent stone.
5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) long
