Lot Essay

The knot count is approximately 9V x 8H per cm. sq.

This beautiful silk Kashan rug is typical of the very best weavings produced in the Mohtasham workshops. Whilst the elegant proportions echo classic Persian illuminations, and in particular the lacquer covers of the second artist Muhammad 'Ali Ashraf, the inventive floral sprays within each corner border highlight the ingenuity of later nineteenth century weavers, displaying Qajar design at its very best.
