A LARGE GILT AND DÉCOUPÉ SAFAVID BINDING
IRAN, 16TH CENTURY
The black morocco binding with flap, each board stamped and gilded with central panel containing large cusped medallion filled with scrolling vine and stylized cloudbands, around this a border of gold and polychrome découpé cartouches and a further border of stamped medallions on ground of floral vine, the doublures with central découpé medallion on ground of scrolling vine and stylised cloudbands, surrounded by a band of large thuluth set in rectangular cartouches and a band of polychrome and gold découpé cartouches, parts of the spine restored, interior in very good condition
