Titles to vols I and II in sepia and black. 4 double-page, 6 etched by George Marston, and 18 mounted (including 16 colour after Marston) plates, 1 panorama and 3 folding lithographic maps in pocket to rear of vol. II, illustrations. (Very occasional light spotting.) Vols I and II in original vellum, upper covers stamped with penguin motif, spines lettered in gilt, top edges gilt (small old closed tear to lower edge of upper cover of vol. II); Antarctic Book in original vellum-backed boards, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt (abrasions to top edge of spine).
FIRST EDITION: A PARTICULARLY FINE BRIGHT COPY OF THE DELUXE ISSUE, NUMBER 273 OF 300, signed by all the members of the party in the Antarctic Book. This copy with the corrected (second) state of the Antarctic Book with the signatures of Mackintosh and the 15 members of the shore party over two pages.
