Lot Essay

This elegant console is typical of the work of Tuscan carvers of the 1780's and 1790's. Related consoles were delivered by the intagliatore Luigi Gelati to the Palazzo Pitti, Florence in 1798 (illustrated in E. Colle, I Mobili di Palazzo Pitti: Il primo periodo Lorenese 1737-1799, Florence, 1992, p. 141, cat. 68).
