BY JEAN-HENRI RIESENER, CIRCA 1785, THE MOUNTS PROBABLY BY PIERRE GOUTHIERE
The canted white marble top above a paneled frieze drawer centered with conforming sphinxes amidst birds, the fallfront enclosing a fitted interior with six pigeon-holes and four drawers, one fitted with inkwells, above a drawer centered by putti amidst scrollwork, on tapering legs terminating in pad feet, stamped J.H. RIESENER, with French & Co. inventory number 47262, the reverse with the remains of wax armorial seals, the marble possibly an old replacement
