Lot Essay

This daybed was originally designed for the Ladies' Common Room at the Glasgow School of Art. The original design drawing by Mackintosh, bearing the title 'Couch in Ladies Common Room', was annotated and amended by Francis Newbery and survives in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow. It was made by Francis Smith at the cost of £8.5.0.
