MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The dish is decorated to the interior with a landscape scene depicting a young boy crossing a river to reach a pavilion where a scholar is seated by the window, surrounded by a border of floral sprays. The exterior of the dish is similarly decorated with a band of floral sprays.

Lot Essay

A rectangular shaped lacquer tray with very similar decoration and borders from the Ming period in the Palace collection in Taiwan is illustrated in Masterpieces of Chinese Carved Lacquer Ware in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, 1971, no.22.
