with a standing bijin looking in hand mirrors, wearing a kimono, at her feet a bowl and cosmetics cabinet, flanked by two screens, behind her a view of a harbour, within a shaped quatrefoil cartouch on a deep blue ground gilt with four cranes in flight, the feathers with raised gilt, each eye applied with a 'jewel', signed and dated E. Sieffert. inv. et pinx. 1874, painted mark to the reverse, gilt metal, ebonised and gilt wood frame -- 25in. (63.5cm.) diam. overall (slight wear)
