REISCH, Gregor (fl. second half of the 15th century). Margarita philosophica. Basel: Michael Furter and Johann Schott, 16 February 1508. 4° (212mm x 148mm). Folding woodcut map of the world and 20 full-page woodcuts, many smaller illustrations, large astronomical diagrams, woodcut music on 4 staves, 2 folding tables. (Lacks first and last leaves, probably blank, title of 4 lines cut out and mounted and loose, a3 defective lacking part of illustration and text on the verso, a3-bi defective and repaired with lamination, a few leaves a little browned.) Wallet binding of contemporary vellum with clasp and clasp holder (rather discoloured).
An early edition of Reisch's Margarita, a sort of encyclopaedia based, apparently,on the author's personal knowledge alone. He was also the emperor Maximilien's confessor.
