WILLIAMSON, Captain Thomas (1790-1815) and Samuel HOWITT (1765?-1822). Oriental Field Sports. London: William Bulmer and Co. for Edward Orme, 1807. Oblong 2° (435 x 550mm). Paper watermarked 'E&P 1804' except dedication watermaked 'J Whatman 1804'. Hand-coloured engraved additional title on india paper, and 35 (of 40) hand-coloured aquatint plates by H. Merke, J. Hamble, and Viveres after Howitt's drawings after Williamson. (Lacking plates 4, 5, 13, 19, and 29, engraved title with corner repair, some spotting, faint dampstains in bottom margin, shallow vertical crease near the plate mark of some leaves, a few marginal tears -- some repaired, light marginal soiling.) Red half morocco gilt by Bayntun, spine compartments centred with animal tools, gilt edges (one corner bumped, cloth sides lightly soiled and discoloured, creasing to blanks and tissue guard). Plate XXXI is in Tooley's presumed first issue, reading 'Hunting Jackals' (and not 'Jackals rescuing a hunted brother'). This copy does not retain the advert slip which Tooley records in part 20.
