SIGNED REAL FABRICA DE TAPICES, STUYCK, MADRID, DATED 1828 (POSSIBLY LATER), SPAIN
The lilac-blue field with bold polychrome scrolling acanthus leaves surrounding a chocolate-brown rose-filled central oval, in an architectural moulded border of repetitive golden-yellow ovals, woven on the horizontal, localised areas of wear, two repaired fireplace cuts on either short side, scattered areas of repiling and repair, one small spot of old moth damage, some surface dirt

Lot Essay

The Stuyck family were descendents of Jacobo van der Gotem, who was appointed to run the Spanish factory, Real Fabrica de Tapices in Madrid when it was founded by Philip V (1683-1746) in 1721.
