This picture is an early 18th century composition of Willem van de Velde II's painting of the same name currently in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, no. A437. There are several other known copies of the painting that are listed in Michael Robinson's magisterial catalogue raisonné of the work of the Willem van de Veldes.
