Lot Essay

Interestingly, the design for this imposing and impressively-carved center table is derived from a 1905 order (A746) for an 'octagonal wood table' for Edward F. Caldwell. Proving to be a popular form, an order for the octagonal design executed in marble appears later in the same year (A1664), followed by the present rectangular variant, which was ordered in August of 1906 for an anonymous client (A4594).
