Lot Essay

This rare form is the only example currently extant. For an illustration of the present example and a listing for pattern 3520, see R. Cluett, George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951, 1998, pp. 66 and 272. Here the author notes that the traditional title for this piece as the 'Gondolier' teapot is almost certainly due to an error and a misreading of the George Jones pattern books. Please note the pattern lists describe 3520 B as 'Gondolier'.
