Lot Essay

The figural medallions on the present vase, specifically the putto musicians, are derived from late 19th century watch-case designs by Desprez of Geneva. A related vase with similar medallions is illustrated J. Lavin, The Art and Tradition of the Zuloagas: Spanish Damascene from the Khalini Collection, London, 1997, p. 161.
