Lot Essay

William Johnston's younger child, George, shown here dressed in blue, married Jean Douglas. On his death in 1900 the Johnston property was inherited by Henry Maitland who was the son of George's sister Mary and her husband Colonel Charles Maitland of Rankeillor. The Lathrick estate in Fife passed to Charles Maitland Magill of Crichton.
