A Beijing-born Manchu, Mr Hui Yishen is a senior tutor of Chinese literature and linguistics in Hong Kong. He is also a writer and Chair Professor at Tianjin Normal University. Mr Hui's grandfather, Mr Hui Qiling, was Minister of the Imperial Household Department during the Guangxu and Xuantong eras. His father, Mr Hui Xiaotong, was a renowned painter and collector. The book has been published both in Beijing and Taipei.
Lot 1056, a folding fan with a landscape by Jin Cheng and calligraphy by Hu Siyuan, was a gift given by the artists to Mr Hui Qiling. Lot 1057, a folding fan with a landscape by Lin Shu and calligraphy by Chen Baoshen (tutor of the Xuantong Emperor), was also dedicated to him. Lot 1058, a landscape on a fan leaf painted by Pu Jin, Qi Kun, Ye Yun and He Yong, was a present to Mr Hui Xiaotong.
