The biscuit-fired carved diaper ground on the current wine pot is very rare and appears to be distinct to porcelain produced in the Wanli period. Compare to a white glazed covered bowl with shaped cartouches divided by a similar carved Wan-fret ground, in the British Museum and illustrated by Jessica Harrison-Hall in Ming Ceramics, London, 2001, no. 11:135; and a blue and white bowl with four roundels separated by a similarly carved ground, dating to around 1620-44, also in the British Museum, ibid., no. 12:40.
