Lot Essay

The painting is dedicated to Liang jinglian (1893-1984), a native of Fujian and a historian. Liang was a professor at Peking University, later emigrating to the United States in 1948 and taking up teaching positions at Columbia University and St. John's University (New York). In 1965 Liang moved to Taiwan and was head of the Central Academy for research in Modern Chinese history, and also lectured at the Chinese Culture University
