CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ("W.") to his Aunt Leonie Jerome Leslie (1859-1943), London, 27 February 1928. 1 page, 8vo, Chancellor of the Exchequer letterhead.
A WORRIED HUSBAND reports to his maternal Aunt about Clementine Churchill's recuperation from a delicate operation. "She is getting on much better," Churchill writes. "It is a most painful operation, & the last fortnight has been a severe trial to her. Anything connected with the ear hurts dreadfully, & goes on hurting even when the original cause has been removed." He promises to show "yr delightful letter...to Clemmie...it was nice seeing your vigorous handwriting again." Clementine suffered from mastoiditis and slowly recovered from the operation to remove the infected bone. A few months later she would be under the knife again for tonsillitis.
