Lot Essay

Ertz and Nitze-Ertz group this pair of exquisitely detailed still lifes with thirteen other works by the artist, under Tisch-Stilleben and Stilleben mit Meerestieren (op. cit., pp. 290-3, nos. 468-482). Those closest to the presents works in scale, support and design (where the edge of the table is not visible), are all dated to the 1660s (nos. 479, 481 and 482).
