Lot Essay

Helen Tatlock was the artist's daughter. Her collection passed to her daughter Miss Harriet Helen Tatlock and then to her companion Miss Muriel Bostock.

De Wint is primarily associated with capturing the rural landscape of Britain. However, watercolours such as the present work demonstrate the artist's parallel interest in architecture and particularly ecclesiastical architecture and the interplay of shape and form and differing materials.
