Lot Essay

Norie was an artist of great repute for his depictions of military subjects and battles. This pair of watercolours depict events from the Indian Mutiny of 1857. The first showing various troops of the East India Company's forces including Light Cavalry, Horse Artillery and soldiers of both the Bengal and Madras Native Infantry. The second shows the storming of the Kashmere Gate, Delhi by the 93rd Highlanders.
