With four-stage sighted barrels each signed ‘LONDON’ and engraved with foliage and scrollwork, signed flat bevelled locks each engraved with border-lines and further foliage, white metal stocks and trigger-guards engraved en suite, the flattened butt-caps each with engraved hinged iron trap-cover, and original brass-capped iron ramrods

The firm of Van Wart Son & Co. were Birmingham makers noted as being General, American & West Indies merchants. Many of their American customers were located in the southern states prior to the Civil War
