16 size nickel-finished lever movement, 23 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, micrometer regulator, gold cuvette, white enamel dial Arabic numerals, outer calibrated black Arabic numeral minutes track with red Arabic five minute divisions, sunken subsidiary seconds, blued steel spade hands, chased and engraved circular case, the back cover with polished central zone, engraved leaf motif to the rim, the front cover and band with engraved geometric design, dial and movement signed by maker, movement numbered, case signed by Gruen, case and cuvette numbered

Lot Essay

A Montgomery dial refers to the second indicators as actual numbers rather than batons. At the time, these dials were used on railway watches among others to make it easier to tell the time down to the second.
