Lot Essay

With an undated Martin Braun Certificate and Quality Control Test and an undated Martin Braun International Guarantee card. Further accompanied by a wooden Martin Braun presentation box, product literature, leather portfolio, and outer packaging.

The present watch is accompanied by a letter from the President of Martin Braun USA authenticating the watch, and noting it was a special order, with two date 28's" for both the 28 and 29 of the month. The present watch comes from the original owner. He viewed a Martin Braun advertisement with a similar watch which oddly had a dial featuring two 28's. This number had sentimental value to the owner and he requested Martin Braun make a timepiece for him with this unique dial. The company originally planned to produce ten Selene models in platinum, and designated the present watch to be serial number 11.

Martin Braun is known for his interest in astronomy and his watches that feature astronomical complications. The Selene model features a photorealistic image of the moon, which differentiates it from more conventional moon phase displays often seen in the watch industry. The moon phase is set using a corrector in the band at 8 o'clock, and features a mechanism that is refined to allow for a smooth and precise sweep in setting.
