Signed Tokozan and a Shimazu-mon, Meiji period (late 19th century)
Of octagonal form, decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt on a crackled cream ground, with six panels containing birds amongst lotus and chrysanthemums from the mouth of a shachihoko [mythical fish], the pierced cover with floral motifs and a finial in the form of Daikoku's mallet
