Lot Essay
Jonzen entered the 1939 Prix de Rome competition which she won with another sculpture, ‘Pietá’. The competition was open to all artists in the UK and the Commonwealth under the age of 30. It entitled the winners to a studio with board for two years plus £250 at the British School in Rome. Jonzen was unable to go to Rome the following year as a result of the war. (See N.
