TWO LARGE EMBROIDERED BLACK-GROUND SILK RECTANGULAR PANELS
LATE QING DYNASTY
One panel is finely embroidered with two pheasants on a pierced rock surrounded by large peonies, on top of a grassy outcrop, surrounded by a border embroidered with butterflies and flowering vines. The second panel is embroidered with a crane perched on a pierced rock amidst blossoming trees and various flowers, below a further crane standing in the pine tree above, all within a border of butterflies and floral meander. Both are worked in satin stitch and Peking knot in shades of blue, green, ochre, cream, brown and blue.
