A PAIR OF RED-OVERLAY GLASS BANGLES
PROPERTY FROM THE BARNEY AND EMMA DAGAN COLLECTION (LOTS 2362 TO 2372) Christie's is pleased to offer the following selection of fine Chinese glass from the distinguished collection of Barney (1913-1984) and Emma (1914-2012) Dagan. As pioneers in the field, the Dagans began collecting Chinese art in the early 1960s and over the course of several decades formed an impressive and diverse collection of glass, snuff bottles, jade carvings and other works of art. Barney had an inherent interest in ceramics, glass, and jade, and his chemical engineering background gave him a heightened knowledge of materials. Barney's educated eye for fine materials complemented Emma's refined taste and love of beauty, and the two enjoyed traveling the world visiting galleries and adding to their collection, which quickly grew both in size and importance. Barney and Emma were true connoisseurs, and their knowledge of the field matched the quality of their collection, regardless of what material or category they collected in. They only sought the highest quality and best examples of the type, and would thoroughly research each new addition. Emma particularly enjoyed sharing their collection with anyone who had the pleasure of visiting her at her home. The Dagan's Chinese glass collection was exhibited in New York at the China Institute, in San Francisco at the Asian Art Museum, and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and selections of their snuff bottles were shown at the Pacific Asia Museum in California, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
